Today is World Mental Health Day and this yr’s theme is ‘workplace mental health’, which is why the automotive charity Ben is raising awareness about mental health inside this industry in order that automotive people get the support they need.

Earlier this yr Ben published research showing one in 4 automotive employees (27%) reported issues managing their mental health.

It was concerned that overwhelming 99.6% of automotive people have been affected by a health and wellbeing issue over the previous 12 months. Stress stays essentially the most common health & wellbeing issue that automotive employees face, at 56%, followed by poor sleep (51%).

Other complaints reported by many were feelings of hysteria (43% of respondents) and low mood (41%). The outcomes clearly show that mental health issues are essentially the most distinguished of the highest 10 issues and affect a lot of people within the automotive industry.

The survey also revealed that 1 in 7 automotive employees are considering leaving the industry and that pay is the most important motivator for this (29%). A complete of 87% of those considering leaving the industry have had financial issues and 63% are experiencing stress at work.

A Ben spokeswoman said: “Our mental health, like our physical health, varies on a regular basis. Someday, we are able to feel low in mood and, the subsequent, we are able to feel happier. Checking in with ourselves, in search of support when needed and connecting with others all help us take care of our mental health.

“Proactively taking care of our mental health may also help us cope with difficult times in the long run. Whether you need to reduce stress levels, sleep higher, or need assistance with anxiety or depression, we’re here for you.”

Ben has a variety of mental health support options, including online self-help, access to SilverCloud, talking therapies and counselling.
