Honda has announced its plans to start selling the Acura Integra Type S and the Honda Passport TrailSport Elite in Japan within the second half of this 12 months, through a simplified certification system for passenger vehicles in-built the US by the Japanese ministry of land, infrastructure, transport and tourism (MLIT).
That is to enable the reverse-import of the US-built models to be able to “accommodate the various needs of consumers in Japan,” in response to the statement by Honda. Each the Acura Integra Type S and the Honda Passport Trailsport Elite are made on the Honda Development & Manufacturing of America (HDMA) plant in Ohio, Alabama.
The presence of each models in Japan was previewed at Tokyo Auto Salon 2026 in January and the Osaka Auto Messe 2026 in February, where visitors to each shows expressed strong interest in each models and had expectations for a Japanese-market launch, in response to the carmaker.
The Integra Type S made its US market debut in April 2023, packing the K20C 2.0 litre VTEC Turbo inline-four cylinder engine that outputs 320 hp at 6,500 rpm and 420 Nm at 2,600 – 4,000 rpm, driving the front wheels through a six-speed manual and helical LSD, as on the FL5 Civic Type R.
This tops the Integra range that launched in that market a 12 months prior with a 1.5 litre VTEC Turbo four-cylinder petrol engine that made 200 hp and 160 Nm, paired with either a CVT or a six-speed manual.
The second half of the Japan-bound duo, the Passport is a five-seater SUV also originally developed for the North American market and bigger than the CR-V, and is powered by a 285 hp/355 Nm 3.5 litre V6 petrol engine paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive with torque vectoring, and this TrailSport Elite variant rolls on 31-inch tyres and 18-inch wheels for heightened off-roading capability.
