The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) has announced the finalists for the IMI Skills Competitions following the national qualifier events in May and June.
Students and apprentices, nominated by their tutors or employers, have been chosen under 4 key specialisms: body repair, refinishing, light vehicle technology, and heavy vehicle technology. The 24 finalists will compete within the live national finals from November 18-22.
Richard Hutchins, IMI Skills Competitions manager, said: “The finalists include profession changers, industry returners, and, for the primary time, two women within the refinishing stream. Each finalist stood out for his or her focus, overcoming personal hurdles, and commitment to improving their skills for the advantage of the industry.
“With the automotive sector facing ongoing recruitment challenges, as highlighted by our ‘There’s More to Motor’ campaign, spotlighting those pursuing and achieving a profession within the sector is significant to draw latest talent. This group is an inspiration to current employees and the following generation considering a profession in automotive.”
The winners of the 4 specialisms shall be announced at a medal ceremony at Bridgewater Hall in Manchester on November 22. Eligible winners can even have the possibility to progress to Squad UK and represent Team UK in EuroSkills 2025 in Herning, Denmark, and WorldSkills International 2026 in Shanghai, China.
