Cupra – the sporty Spanish subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group – has drip-fed the newest set of details for its upcoming Tavascan electric SUV for Australia.

On account of arrive in Australian showrooms around February-March ahead of deliveries commencing in April (a couple of month after its initial October-December 2024 projection), the Cupra’s local outpost has confirmed further details for the two-variant Australian lineup.

Full pricing and specifications are still to be confirmed, though the entry-level Tavascan Endurance RWD is anticipated to start out somewhere within the $60,000 bracket while the top-spec Tavascan VZ AWD may have a price tag starting with a ‘7’.

The 2-variant lineup formula can also be being applied to the Tavascan’s twin-under-the-skin, the Volkswagen ID.5.

  • Ambient interior lighting
  • Illuminated scuff plates

The Tavascan VZ adds over Endurance:

  • 21-inch Katla alloy wheels
  • Matrix LED headlights
  • Fixed panoramic sunroof
  • Adaptive adaptive dampers
  • Interior Package equipment

An Extreme Package ($TBC) will add:

  • 21-inch Etna forged alloy wheels
  • Performance tyres (463km WLTP range)
  • Enceladus Grey leather interior
  • Cup Bucket heated and ventilated front seats

4 colors will likely be available at launch:

  • White Silver
  • Atacama Desert
  • Tavascan Blue*
  • Basalt Grey*

*indicates premium paint available at extra cost

Head of product and marketing for Cupra Australia, Jeff Shafer, indicated further color options could develop into available down the road following the initial launch, namely matte finishes.

Cupra offers numerous matte paint finishes already, with the Leon and Formentor offered with the choice of the special paint currently on specific variants.

Including the varied features and options mentioned earlier, the local Tavascan range will offer a complete of 4 exterior colors, three interior upholsteries, and 4 alloy wheel designs.

As previously announced, two drivetrain variants will likely be available in Australia, each drawing upon a 77kWh (net) lithium-ion battery pack.

As noted earlier, the VZ’s quoted WLTP driving range drops to 463km if buyers go for the optional Extreme Package, because the included forged alloy wheels are wrapped in performance tyres.

Cupra has also confirmed the Tavascan encompasses a drag coefficient of 0.26Cd, and offers 540 litres of boot space.
