The 2024 Mini Countryman EV is generating quite a buzz because it marks the brand’s first-ever electric vehicle manufactured in Germany. Notably, it also stands as the biggest model in Mini’s revamped lineup, signaling a big shift within the brand’s approach to electric mobility.

When it comes to dimensions, the new-generation Countryman measures 174.5 inches in length, 72.5 inches in width, and 65.1 inches in height. This dynamic crossover is ready to make its public debut alongside the brand new Mini Cooper EV on the IAA Munich event starting on September 5, creating an exciting opportunity for automotive enthusiasts to get a glimpse of those electrified marvels.

In comparison with its predecessor, the third-generation Countryman has grown in size, boasting an additional 5 inches in length and a pair of inches in height. It’s available in two power levels to cater to different driving preferences. The Countryman E offers a WLTP-rated range of 287 miles and is powered by a front-mounted electric motor producing 201 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. For those in search of a bit more power, the Countryman SE ALL4 steps up with a WLTP range of 269 miles, featuring a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup delivering a combined 308 hp and 364 lb-ft of torque.

While precise battery capability details remain undisclosed, it’s suggested that the Countryman E contains a 54-kilowatt-hour pack, while the Countryman SE ALL4 is supplied with a bigger 64-kWh pack. Charging rates are impressive, with each versions accepting as much as 22 kW of AC power and as much as 130 kW at a DC fast charger.

Performance-wise, the entry-level model accelerates from 0 to 62 miles per hour in 8.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 105 mph, while the stronger variant boasts a quicker 0 to 62 mph time of 5.6 seconds and a top speed of 111 mph.

One notable feature that sets the electrical Countryman other than its smaller Mini Cooper counterparts is its charging capabilities. While the Cooper can accept as much as 11 kW of AC power and a maximum of 95 kW from a DC fast charger, the Countryman offers more robust charging options.

The outside design of the new-generation Countryman showcases a striking octagonal grille housing a radar sensor for Level 2 driving assistance systems. Configurable LED daytime running lights provide up to 3 lighting signatures. The side profile is dominated by a particular C-pillar with trim-level-specific shapes, complemented by up-to-20-inch rims. The rear features flush tail lights, contributing to a sleek and modern appearance.

Contained in the cabin, the 2024 Countryman boasts a curved dashboard with textile surfaces on select trim levels. A central 9.44-inch OLED screen displays critical information, from travel speed to navigation and battery status. Powered by Operating System 9, the Countryman responds to voice commands with the “Hey Mini” greeting or through the push-to-talk steering wheel button, activating the Mini Intelligent Personal Assistant.

Seating as much as five people, this German-built crossover offers a split panoramic glass roof as an optional feature. The rear row of seats could be adjusted by as much as 5 inches in length, enhancing either rear legroom or luggage space within the trunk. With the rear backrest in its standard position, the trunk offers 460 liters of cargo volume, which may expand to 1,450 liters by folding the rear seats. There’s also a convenient second-floor compartment for storing charging accessories that include the automotive. Moreover, an optional retractable trailer with an electrical extension is out there, providing a towing capability of as much as 2,645 kilos.

Buyers can pick from 4 trim levels for the brand new electric Countryman: Essential, Classic, Favoured, and JCW. Each level comes with its unique set of features and styling elements, catering to a spread of preferences and tastes.

Production of the third-generation Mini Countryman is ready to begin at BMW Group’s Leipzig factory in Germany later this yr, coinciding with the production launch of the Chinese-built Mini Cooper EV. Moreover, the lineup will expand with the introduction of the Aceman crossover in April 2024, promising an exciting future for Mini’s electric vehicle offerings.
