Kelantan is ready to receive eight electric buses valued at RM11.2 million, and these are expected to start operations within the state in July, reported Latest Straits Times.
The brand new electric buses are to serve 4 recent routes within the east coast state, including Kota Baru to Pengkalan Chepa and Kota Baru to Pantai Cahaya Bulan, said Konsortium E-Mutiara Bhd CEO Che Ibrahim Che Ismail. Fares for the electrical buses might be determined by the land public transport agency (APAD), he said.
Travel on these upcoming EV buses might be freed from charge for individuals with disabilities, senior residents, and all students, in addition to students at institutions of upper learning. Students will nonetheless be required to use online for a pass, Che Ibrahim said.
Electric buses currently in operation include those under Smart Selangor, which operate along the SA1 route that connects the Shah Alam KTM station to Section 7 in town. Meanwhile, public transport operator Prasarana might be shifting to EV buses after its last order of 310 diesel buses, which might be followed by the acquisition of 250 EV buses, transport minister Anthony Loke said in January.
