The fifth-generation Toyota RAV4 – or at the least its Chinese-market version – appears to have been leaked online.

A single image was published on Chinese social media network Weibo and re-shared by Japanese outlet Creative Trend, reportedly taken at a GAC Toyota dealer meeting in China.

That is reportedly a Wildlander from the GAC Toyota three way partnership, which currently exists as a frivolously restyled version of the RAV4 produced in China by the FAW Toyota three way partnership.

Creative Trend reports the brand new Wildlander will likely be revealed on the Shanghai motor show on April 23, 2025, which suggests a reveal of the brand new RAV4 won’t be far behind.

The subsequent-generation RAV4 has already been spied testing within the US.

The present Wildlander differs largely within the styling of its front and rear fasciae, with it and the RAV4 otherwise sharing the identical bodywork and TNGA-K platform.

The brand new-generation mid-sized SUV is anticipated to ride on an updated version of the TNGA-K platform, and proceed to supply hybrid and plug-in hybrid power.

It is going to likely get Toyota’s recent fifth-generation hybrid system, as seen in the brand new Camry. Within the sedan, this sees a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine mated with a brand new electric motor and battery for a complete system output of 170kW.

Unlike the most recent Camry, the RAV4 appears to be getting recent doors. These feature sharp creases, paying homage to the smaller C-HR.

Up front, the new-generation SUV has C-shaped lighting elements and an identical ‘hammerhead’ look to other recent Toyota products just like the recent Camry.

The angular wheel-arches and creasing at the underside of the doors, nevertheless, closely resemble those self same details on the present RAV4.

While we now have yet to see contained in the next-gen SUV, a pair of 12.3-inch screens – one for the infotainment system, the opposite for the digital instrument cluster – may feature, as they do within the Camry.

Toyota has confirmed it isn’t seeking to rock the boat with its recent RAV4.

“RAV4 is straightforward,” Toyota Motor North America product planning head Cooper Ericksen told Automotive News in July 2024.

“We have now other product segments which are difficult, but the client has spoken clearly with what they need with the RAV4: The scale, the packaging, the extent of performance, technology.

“We could sell 500,000 of those things a 12 months if we could construct them, so we don’t need to mess up that formula.”

The corporate said the RAV4 had changed into its Camry over the past 10 years when it comes to total sales.

In Australia last 12 months, it was the brand’s best-selling vehicle. It fell just in need of being Australia’s best-selling vehicle overall, with its 58,718 deliveries shaded by the Ford Ranger (62,593). The present RAV4 was released locally in 2019.
