Ian Hucker comes back to GM after management roles with Hyundai Capital Europe and Lynk & Co., a subsidiary of Geely Group.

General Motors today announced the appointment of Ian Hucker as the brand new head of GM Envolve, the corporate’s fleet business solutions.

Because the vice chairman, “Hucker will lead GM Envolve’s efforts to offer modern, integrated fleet solutions that help businesses achieve their mobility and sustainability goals,” GM said in a press release.

Most recently, Hucker was chief industrial officer for Hyundai Capital Europe. He previously served as chief industrial officer and VP of sales and remarketing for Lynk & Co., a subsidiary of Geely Group. He also has extensive previous global experience at GM, including senior sales roles within the U.S., Germany, Russia, and the UK, holding leadership positions, including executive director of European sales, director of European fleet and remarketing, and director of corporate and leasing sales.

“We’re excited to welcome Ian Hucker back to steer GM Envolve,” said Duncan Aldred, VP of world industrial growth strategies and operations at GM. “His expertise in strategy development and transformation will help GM Envolve proceed to grow and deliver value to our customers through a winning product portfolio, advanced telematics, and digital fleet management tools.”

Hucker succeeds Sandor Piszar, who assumed the role from Aug. 1, 2023, until his retirement in December 2024.

Piszar replaced Ed Peper, who was head of GM Fleet and retired as U.S. vice chairman for GM Envolve, capping a greater than 39-year profession with GM.

GM Envolve at a Crossroads

Hucker has been tapped to shepherd a business unit with substantial revenue goals for GM.

GM Envolve was launched in May 2023 to bring together services under one umbrella for fleet and industrial customers and offer a single point of contact for industrial customers.

Those services include electrification support, telematics, and GPS tracking, together with data insights and analytics.

Ford consolidated its fleet and industrial services into Ford Pro in 2021. Stellantis is within the technique of consolidating its fleet services into Ram Skilled and Free2Move, Stellantis’ global mobility brand.

In 2021, GM announced that it anticipates annual software and services revenues would reach $20 to $25 billion by 2030, driven by an estimated 30 million connected vehicles.

At the moment, OnStar had over 16 million connected vehicles, generating roughly $2 billion in annual revenue through subscription-based communications, in-vehicle security, emergency services, navigation, and distant diagnostics systems.

GM has not released updated targets since then.

In 2021, GM CEO Mary Barra announced a goal of 1 million EVs annually in North America by the top of 2025. GM has since updated that 2025 goal to 200,000 to 250,000 units.
