A brand new, extended-range version of the Geely Galaxy E5 has been unveiled through filings with the Chinese ministry of industry and data technology (MIIT). This may reportedly feature a battery pack with a capability of 68.39 kWh, which is alleged to supply 610 km of range on the CLTC Chinese domestic testing cycle.

This bring a 15% increase in CLTC-rated range from the larger, 68.39 kWh battery capability over that of the 60.22 kWh pack, and thus the identical increase when it comes to the more stringent WLTP testing standard would bring that figure to around 470 km.

The present number of battery packs available to the Geely Galaxy E5/Geely EX5 are the 49.52 kWh and 60.22 kWh versions, offering 440 km and 530 km of range respectively (CLTC); in Malaysia, the Proton eMas 7 with the identical battery options gets WLTP battery range rankings of 345 km and 410 km, respectively.

Currently, it stays unclear if Geely will retain all three battery options with the inclusion of the newest, 68.39 kWh battery, or if one among the present two battery specifications can be discontinued.

In keeping with the regulatory filing, the long-range variant of the Galaxy E5 will proceed to employ a 160 kW single-motor powertrain, which is the 218 PS/320 Nm unit that powers the eMas 7. This will even support DC fast charging and regular AC charging, in addition to as much as 3.3 kW in vehicle-to-load (V2L) electricity supply to external devices.

The long-range variant of the Galaxy E5 is predicted to share is exterior dimensions with the present versions, which measure 4,615 mm long, 1,901 mm wide and 1,670 mm tall with a wheelbase of two,750 mm. As with the eMas 7 in Malaysia, the long-range Galaxy E5 is predicted to feature 18-inch and 19-inch alloy wheels.

With the Proton eMas 7 being effectively based on the EX5/Galaxy E5 duo, this might open the door for the Malaysian-branded electric SUV to achieve the larger-capacity battery and thus, longer range too. In Malaysia, the eMas 7 was launched in two variants, starting with the Prime (49.52 kWh battery) at RM105,800, and the Premium (60.22 kWh battery) at RM119,800.
