Geely has conducted an illustration of the security of its Golden Brick EV battery in a crush test, where the battery specified for the Galaxy E5 – twin to the Proton eMas 7 – is subjected to the burden of a 36-tonne ZTZ-59D most important battle tank, reported Automobile News China. The test yielded forces which were 1.8 times greater than what’s required by the brand new battery safety standards of China, it wrote.

The battery pack survived getting run over by the most important battle tank, maintaining its structural integrity without bulging, leakage, fire, or explosion. The test was also carried out on individual battery cells, and groups of 10 cells.

That is in reference to the country’s latest battery certification standard GB38031-2025, which requires the battery to realize higher standards of safety, namely for fast-charging cycles, protection against thermal runaway, and resistance to underbody impacts.

The Golden Brick battery pack gets IP68 and IPX9K ingress protection rankings, and it uses cell-to-body integration technology, and a 2.6 mm thick sandwich-structure bottom plate. Further safety features include liquid-electric separation, electrical isolation, heat dissipation and other protective measures.

While the Chinese national standard for EV batteries require a complete of 24 safety tests, the Aegis Golden Brick battery is subjected to 36 test scenarios by Geely, of which 23 tests exceed the national testing requirements, the report wrote. Moreover, Geely plans to open up its battery safety patent portfolio to the broader industry, in line with Automobile News China.

Earlier this week, details of a brand new, extended-range version of the Galaxy E5 got here to light through filings with the Chinese ministry of industry and data technology (MIIT), revealing that the new edition will feature a battery pack with a capability of 68.39 kWh.

At present, the present number of battery packs available to the Geely Galaxy E5/Geely EX5 are the 49.52 kWh and 60.22 kWh versions, offering 440 km and 530 km of range respectively (CLTC).

In Malaysia, the Proton eMas 7 with the identical battery options gets WLTP battery range rankings of 345 km and 410 km, respectively. The Proton emas 7 was launched last December, at prices ranging from RM106k for the Prime with the 49.52 kWh battery, and RM120k for the Premium with the 60.22 kWh battery.
