BMW underestimated just how popular the M5 Touring can be within the U.S. market. For the primary time ever, the high-performance wagon is offered stateside, and demand is already exceeding expectations. In response to Sylvia Neubauer, BMW’s Vice President of Customer, Brand, and Sales, the corporate initially projected that two-thirds of M5 production can be sedans and only one-third wagons. Nonetheless, the fact is that production is now split evenly between the 2 body styles.

Neubauer recently told BMW Blog that not only has interest within the M5 Touring surged past expectations, but demand for the sedan has also been higher than anticipated. In consequence, BMW has needed to ramp up production for each variants. “We now see that there’s more demand for the sedan,” Neubauer explained. “So we’ve increased production there. But there’s much more demand for the Touring. So the rise on the Touring is far higher.”

The 2025 BMW M5 Touring made its debut last August, packing a 717-horsepower hybrid V8 under the hood—similar to its sedan counterpart. This powertrain also cranks out 738 lb-ft of torque, allowing the hefty 5,530-pound wagon to rocket from 0-60 mph in only 3.5 seconds. Moreover, because of its hybrid system, the M5 Touring can travel as much as 25 miles on electric power alone.

While the M5 Touring’s strong sales performance is an encouraging sign for BMW’s long-roof enthusiasts, it doesn’t necessarily guarantee that the highly coveted M3 Touring will make its option to the U.S. anytime soon. Nonetheless, there may be hope. Andreas Meyer, BMW’s VP of Product, stated last 12 months that if the M5 Touring proves successful, there’s a possibility that the next-generation M3 Touring might be considered for the American market.

For now, the overwhelming demand for the M5 Touring is a transparent signal that American buyers are longing for high-performance wagons. If BMW takes note, we could see much more exciting Touring models arriving in the longer term.
