Today, Dodge debuted the highly anticipated next-generation Charger, confirming speculation surrounding its powertrain options. Each electric and combustion-powered versions will coexist, each with unique branding. The electrical lineup is represented by the Charger Daytona models, while the combustion variants will bear the “Sixpack” designation. Despite the divergence in power sources, Dodge’s CEO Tim Kuniskis asserts that the Charger stays a muscle automotive at its core, whatever the propulsion method.
The Charger Daytona is ready to hit production this yr, boasting formidable power figures. The bottom model churns out as much as 496 horsepower, while a stronger version boasts a formidable 670 hp, with all-wheel drive configurations available for each electric and combustion models. Dodge claims that the top-tier Charger Daytona is the quickest and strongest muscle automotive globally, excluding the high-performance Banshee slated for release the next yr.
The Charger Daytona is available in two trims: R/T and Scat Pack. Each variants share a 100.5-kilowatt-hour battery pack and a dual-motor layout, delivering substantial power. Riding on Stellantis’ STLA Large platform, the Charger Daytona achieves a near 50/50 weight distribution, enhancing its handling dynamics.
Despite its substantial weight of 5,838 kilos, Dodge equips the Charger Daytona with a large tire package, including 20-inch wheels with wide tires and high-performance brakes. The electrical Charger Daytona incorporates advanced features like a wheel end disconnect to enhance range and efficiency, with the R/T boasting a spread of 317 miles and the Scat Pack managing 260 miles between charges.
Performance enthusiasts will appreciate the Charger Daytona’s impressive acceleration, with the Scat Pack achieving a 0-60 mph time of three.3 seconds and an 11.5-second quarter-mile run. Dodge offers various driving modes, including a race prep system designed to optimize battery performance for track use.
Interestingly, the Charger Daytona’s power figures include a caveat. Pressing the “PowerShot” button on the steering wheel provides a short lived boost of 40 horsepower, paying homage to a nitrous-oxide system, albeit with a cooldown period between uses. Dodge also offers Direct Connection upgrade kits for added power, further enhancing the Charger Daytona’s performance.
The Charger Daytona’s exterior design closely resembles the previously showcased SRT EV concept, featuring a daring and aggressive stance. The inside blends digital technology with retro-inspired elements, offering a spread of customization options and advanced driver-assist features.
As for the combustion-powered Charger Sixpack set to debut in 2025, Dodge stays tight-lipped about details, only confirming its inclusion on the identical platform as the electrical variant.
The Charger Daytona R/T and Scat Pack are expected to launch this summer, with four-door models slated for release in early 2025. While pricing details are yet to be revealed, anticipation surrounds the Charger Daytona’s entry into the performance automotive market, signaling an electrifying future for Dodge’s iconic muscle automotive lineup.
