One other 10,000 Citroën and DS models have been recalled, with owners warned ‘don’t drive’ following safety concerns about their airbag systems.
The alert concerns faulty Takata airbags, which might explode and cause fatal injuries. It follows the death of a girl in Reims, France, last 12 months after an airbag in her 2014 Citroën C3 ruptured. No drivers have been hurt within the UK, but the danger has prompted a widening of the recall.
Back in June, an urgent stop drive order was issued for certain Citroën and DS models. Now their parent company Stellantis has added further vehicles to the list – for the second time.
Citroën first prolonged its urgent ‘stop-drive’ recall to incorporate C4, DS4, and DS5 models, affecting nearly 10,000 additional vehicles – in mid August – adding 9,968 vehicles to earlier motion in June that impacted around 120,000 C3 and DS3 models.
Consumer group Which? launched a scathing attack on Stellantis this summer over what it calls a “shameful” and chaotic handling of the Citroën C3 and DS3 stop-drive recall.
Stellantis stated the choice was based on a mixture of things including airbag design, age, vehicle use, and climate exposure, in addition to regulatory input.
Customers will probably be contacted by letter but are also urged to envision their vehicle’s status immediately using the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) tool on the Citroën UK website. If a vehicle is affected, owners should register their details for repairs as soon as possible. The network of Citroën, DS Automobiles and Peugeot Retailers are energetic within the required alternative work.
A Stellantis spokesman outlined to AM how the newest additional models will impact the recall programme: “We forecast completion of Citroën C3, DS3 and DS Automobiles DS 3 mid-October. The others we forecast completion by December.”
The extra models are:
Citroën C4 (2010–2013)
