The Zeekr 9X is confirmed for Malaysia, and the brand’s flagship model is slated to reach as early as end of 2026. This was revealed by Zeekr Malaysia’s GM Eddy Lu at a test drive event for Malaysian media and owners in Harbin, China. Besides the 9X, the carmaker had the 007 GT and 7X on duty on the winter event.
“The Zeekr 9X is certainly coming to Malaysia, needless to say, it’s only a matter of time,” Lu said, explaining that the timeline is determined by right-hand drive (RHD) engineering and homologation, while also confirming the model to be a hybrid and never an REEV. “It is determined by the engineering progress of converting from LHD to RHD, and likewise from Chinese regulations to European regulations (which we’ll get in Malaysia). It would be at the tip of this 12 months or early next 12 months,” he added.
The 9X is a hugely impressive vehicle – each as a luxury product and in its capabilities – and the large SUV doesn’t just function a flagship model for Zeekr, but in addition for the broader Geely Group. As such, it can be priced accordingly. What this implies is that the 9X will probably be priced significantly higher than the most expensive 009, which let’s not forget, also enjoyed tax-free EV status until very recently. The range-topping 009 is the Ultra Luxury, which is priced at RM359,800.
“I feel nobody will expect that the 9X will probably be cheaper than that (the highest 009). It definitely will probably be higher than that. The 9X is about half one million RMB (specifically, RMB 465,900 to 599,900 in China), and it is a hybrid. A hybrid CBU will probably be applied with very high taxes. Remember that this automotive will probably be much higher than the value of the best version of the 009. That is needless to say,” Lu explained.
“Keep that in mind that there’s no way for it to be a low priced product. Perhaps later this 12 months when we have now the ultimate confirmed launch plan, we’ll share with you a bit more regarding the main points,” the Zeekr Malaysia chief reiterated.
Built on the SEA-S platform allowing for a 900V high-voltage architecture, the 9X debuts the Geely Group’s SEA Super Hybrid system with as much as 1,400 PS (1,030 kW) and 1,410 Nm, allowing the behemoth to speed up from rest to 100 km/h in only 3.1 seconds. Under the hybrid’s bay is Geely’s 2.0-litre turbo-four with 279 PS. The 9X’s pure EV range is 380 km CLTC and ultra-fast charging from 20–80% could be done in only 8.5 minutes.
