Because the UK moves through 12 months two of the Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mandate, questions proceed to mount around its impact on each recent and used automobile sales.
At Automotive Management Survive November 12 on the NEC, a panel of industry experts will spark debate on how the ZEV mandate and the Electric Automotive Grant (ECG) are reshaping the UK automobile market.
The ZEV requires 28% of latest cars to be EV by the top of this 12 months. The UK is currently at 21.5% year-to-date, based on the most recent Society of Motor Manufacturer and Traders (SMMT) data.
The ECG’s introduction earlier this summer to supply Government discounts on certain recent EVs was also welcomed as a lift to the retail EV sector, but what has been the true impact and are there still concerns for the used EV sector?
The session will bring together perspectives from across the automotive sector.
Robert Deane, industrial director at Volvo Cars UK, will provide a view from a manufacturer that’s expecting 90% of its production to be fully EV by 2030.
With Volvo among the many leading EV manufacturers, Deane will explain how ZEV requirements are being managed and the way OEMs and dealer networks can work together to deliver on targets.
Vicky Hart, head of selling and digital at Waylands, will discuss how the business is targeting customers more effectively, constructing awareness and helping more buyers make the switch to EVs.
Tom Carr, managing director of PHM Group, will share insights from his work with OEMs and dealer groups on EV training and engagement, specializing in how retailers can prepare their teams for fulfillment.
Chris Timms, head of sales-marketplace at Autorola, will take a look at the impact of Government policy on the used EV market.
His contribution will cover residual values, remarketing trends and the opportunities and risks facing dealers as volumes increase.
A recent report from Indicata states that there has actually been modest impact from the Electric Automotive Grant on the UK’s EV market up to now.
Other OEMs are shifting production to hybrids, while emerging brands are also offering more alternative for brand spanking new EVs than ever before.
Tim Rose, Automotive Management editor, said: “Dealers are embracing EV sales, but there’s still a level of caution around their far reaching impact across recent, used and aftersales departments.
“I’d urge retailers to benefit from this expert panel’s knowledge and join the controversy and conversation around this transformative topic for the industry.”
