Almost two-thirds of UK automotive dealers at the moment are using artificial intelligence (AI) of their businesses, in response to the newest Startline Used Automobile Tracker.
The most recent survey found that 62% of dealers are using AI in some capability.
Of those, 38% said the technology helps automotive buyers find the precise vehicle, 31% use it to administer initial customer contact and 26% to assist discover essentially the most suitable finance option.
Nevertheless, some retailers remain cautious about its advantages.
The research found 18% of dealers are satisfied with their current processes, 16% are unconvinced concerning the value of AI and 6% imagine the technology is just not yet mature enough.
Paul Burgess, chief executive at Startline Motor Finance, said the extent of AI adoption was higher than expected given the limited variety of dealer-focused AI tools available.
He noted that the majority applications were customer-facing, covering lead handling, vehicle selection and finance – areas traditionally managed by dealership staff.
When asked about effectiveness, only 10% of dealers using AI said it had been successful, while 8% reported the other.
Burgess said the mixed feedback suggested many retailers were still assessing how well the technology performs in practice.
