Toyota could replace the engines on roughly 102,000 Toyota and Lexus-branded vehicles previously recalled because of a possible lack of motive power.
The recall, which Automotive Fleet first reported on in June 2024, involves certain model 12 months 2022-2024 Toyota Tundra pickup trucks and Lexus LX (conventional gas model only) SUVs.
When the recall was first announced, Toyota didn’t have a treatment in place. Now, the automaker says it would replace the engines on affected vehicles entirely.
Along with the 102,000 affected vehicles within the U.S., one other 10,000 vehicles were recalled in Canada, the automaker noted in a news release.
Based on Toyota, machining debris may not have been cleared from the engine when it was produced.
Within the involved vehicles, this may result in potential engine knocking, engine rough running, engine no start and/or a lack of motive power. A lack of motive power while driving at higher speeds can increase the danger of a crash.
For all involved vehicles, Toyota and Lexus dealers will replace the engine with a brand new one for gratis to customers.
Based on documents submitted to NHTSA, hybrid models are usually not included within the recall because if the engine failure occurs on a hybrid vehicle, it continues to have some motive power for limited distances and provides the driving force with a continuous audible warning, warning lamps, and visual warning messages.
As of May 20, 2024, Toyota estimates there have been 166 Toyota Field Technical Reports and 824 warranty claims which will have been previously reported as having the problem.
Notices are being sent to impacted owners.
