Tesla has released a teaser of an upcoming “Tesla Model Y L” via its Tesla China Weibo account. The teaser shows the side profile of a Model Y, in addition to a rear model badge with a rather different design, a kind of triple shadow version of the Y which could perhaps signify 3 rows of seats.

Finally, we all know its called the Tesla Model Y L since the caption says Model Y L, which is consistent with the naming scheme of long wheelbase versions of cars that Chinese customers are used to.

Tesla Model Y L teased by Tesla in China – 3 rows?

Tesla China has likely decided to publish a teaser today since the design of the Model Y L has been also published by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) as a part of its regulatory publishing.

MIIT data reveals the Model Y L measures 4,976 mm long and 1,668 mm tall, with a wheelbase of three,040 mm. As a comparison, the present Tesla Model Y “Juniper” is 4,790 mm long, 1,624 mm tall with a wheelbase of two,891 mm. In order that’s a few 149 mm extension in wheelbase.

The “OG” Tesla Model Y was available with an optional third row that you can pay extra for, but when the Juniper was released it longer had this feature.

With the introduction of the Model Y L, the three-row Model Y is finally back, though now it is seemingly a six-seater (in keeping with MIIT data) with presumably individual seats for the center row. The “OG” Model Y three-row version was a 7-seater with a bench for the center row.

As of now, Tesla China hasn’t opened the order books for the Model Y L on its website yet, although we expect it should be soon. No word if this will likely be a China exclusive model or if it should be exported to other markets comparable to Malaysia. Would you purchase a six-seater Tesla Model Y L over a daily Model Y?
