The increased supply of used electric and hybrid cars in Q1 has resulted in a ten% price drop year-on-year for the period, in response to AA Cars.

The newest AA Cars Used Automotive Index shows the common cost of the highest 20 most looked for EVs and hybrids on AA Cars dropped from £20,956 to £18,973 over the past yr, with prices falling 6% because the final quarter of 2024.

The Toyota Yaris (hybrid) – essentially the most looked for EV or hybrid – dropped in price by 14% over the past 12 months, while the Toyota Prius has seen the most important price fall (-42%).

This was followed by the Nissan Leaf (-25%), Renault Zoe (-25%) and Tesla Model 3 (-22%). Only two of the highest 20 hottest used EVs and hybrids rose in value over the past yr — the Volkswagen Golf (7%) and Kia Sportage (2%).

James Hosking, director of AA Cars, said: “The preferred second-hand EVs and hybrids have gotten an increasing number of inexpensive for the common motorist.

“The provision of used electric and hybrid vehicles continues to outpace demand, which is why we’ve seeing such significant price falls. Buyers are saving over £2,000 compared with this time last yr, though the common age of used EVs and hybrids on the location has fallen barely during this era.

“We may soon reach some extent where the most well-liked second-hand EVs and hybrids are cheaper than their petrol and diesel counterparts.

“The divergence in prices is sweet news for drivers supporting the transition to greener vehicles and may help generate increased demand amongst consumers.”
