Proton has reported sales of 11,069 units in June 2025, which is a slight year-on-year increase from the ten,999 units it did in the identical month last yr. June completes the primary half of the yr, and the 1H 2025 year-to-date total is 72,156 units.

Proton typically doesn’t give context or percentage figures when numbers are lower, but based on our records, 1H 2025 sales are 2.1% lower y-o-y than the 73,696 units from 1H 2024 and a good bit lower than the 77,321 units from 1H 2023, which was the carmaker’s best first half since 2012.

The corporate did nonetheless share that market share is estimated to be at 20.7%, which is a rise of 1.1% over the previous month (May) and ‘1.2% ahead of the YTD figure of 19.5%’. That is on the back of estimated total industry volume (TIV) of 53,500 units in June, 21% lower than May’s TIV of 68,007 units.

The X50 has been a vivid spot for Proton. Although the pre-facelift RC is way from fresh (a significantly upgraded big facelift is now open for booking), 1,657 units of the B-SUV were sold last month, which Proton says is class-leading. This total includes 353 units of exports (Proton typically includes exports in its sales releases), which implies that the X50 accounts for 47% of Proton’s total export volume.

It may need been on its final lap, however the pre-facelift X50 saw sales of 11,351 units in 1H 2025, which is 11.3% higher y-o-y. Overall, the X50 has been an enormous success for Proton – since its launch in October 2020, the corporate has shifted over 140,000 units of the trendy SUV, including exports.

Other than the X50, Proton is claiming sales leadership within the D-SUV and C-sedan segments with the X90 (174 units) and S70 (1,402) respectively. As debated earlier, whether the S70 is a C-sedan or not is open to interpretation. Going by the ruler, the S70 is definitely closer to the Honda City than the Civic in size (the latter’s wheelbase is 108 mm longer than the S70’s) however the Proton does include a 1.5L turbo engine, while the City and Toyota Vios are 1.5L NA-powered.

Elsewhere, the Saga saw sales of 5,206 units while the Persona and Iriz did 1,171 and 288 units respectively. With a lot attention on the X50, the X70 appears to be somewhat forgotten, however the August 2024 facelift for the primary ever Geely-based Proton has boosted figures – 4,354 units of the C-SUV were sold in 1H 2025, which is 46.3% up y-o-y from a low base.

“After performing strongly in May, automotive sales dropped by 15,000 units in June as a result of external aspects comparable to rising tensions within the Middle East and the expansion of the scope of SST affecting buyer sentiment. Despite this, Proton managed to outperform the market to extend our market share percentage ahead of a busy second half of the yr where now we have a full slate of events and model introductions,” said Zhang Qiang, deputy CEO of Proton Edar.

“With latest models arriving in our showrooms, the outlook is for the corporate to have a stronger second half to 2025 as we seek to extend sales for our ICE and EV offerings,” added Zhang, who can also be CEO of Proton’s EV arm Pro-Net. A brand new Saga and the eMas 5 EV are on the way in which.

Exports are looking good for Proton. With 414 units shipped out in June, 1H 2025 total exports rose 39.9% to 2,250 units. The quantum of growth can be even wider come full yr 2025 because the eMas 7 is launched in additional export markets. Speaking of the EV, Proton shifted 4,253 units in 1H 2025 (including exports) and claims 24% share of the local EV marketplace for top spot.

“The majority of Proton’s current sales volume is taken up by domestic ICE vehicles, but export and EV sales have tremendous future growth potential. We forecast a gradual increase in export sales as the corporate explores more latest markets. As for EV sales, the market is expanding as more infrastructure is established and the boldness gap closes for buyers who remain on the fence, so we’re hopeful of a quantum leap in sales with the introduction of more Proton eMas models,” Zhang said.

Note that apart from including exports in its monthly sales announcements, Proton has been reporting ‘group sales’ in 2025, which implies that the entire figures we see include that of the smart brand, which is under Pro-Net.
