Nissan has announced that global production of its e-Power vehicles surpassed 1.5 million units as of the top of October this yr. As stated in an official release, Japan recorded the best production figure with 1.17 million units, while Europe saw 140,000 units, China with 60,000 units and other markets with 150,000 units.

The Japanese carmaker’s unique hybrid system uses a petroleum engine with a small displacement to generate electricity that’s fed to a lithium-ion battery. Unlike other hybrids, there isn’t any mechanical connection between the engine and wheels, with drive being provided exclusively by an electrical motor, which is powered by said electric motor.

The e-Power system was first launched in Japan in 2016 with the Note before being expanded to the Kicks, X-Trail in addition to the Serena. The uptake rate has grown significantly since then, as 42.6% of Nissan vehicles sold in Japan featured the e-Power system in fiscal yr 2023.

Outside of Japan, e-Power became available in China in 2021 with the Sylphy and is now also available on the X-Trail. As for Europe, e-Power-equipped versions of the X-Trail and Qashqai were introduced in 2022, with a complete of greater than 100,000 units sold as of January.

At present, e-Power vehicles are sold in 68 markets world wide, and the carmaker plans to launch the technology in the US and Canada by the top of fiscal yr 2026. Malaysia will soon get the Kicks e-Power in December, joining nearby markets like Thailand and Singapore which have already gotten e-Power vehicles.
