At today’s Omoda Day event that saw the introduction of the Omoda 3/C3, Shawn Xu, CEO of Omoda & Jaecoo International, teased the next-generation C9.
Internally referred to as the T29, the SUV won’t only be sold because the Omoda C9 but additionally as a Chery offering called the Fulwin. This “same automobile, different names” approach isn’t recent, as the present C9 we’ve got in Malaysia is a rebadged Exeed RX (Yaoguang).
Little information on the following C9 was provided during Xu’s presentation, although we got a likelihood to see a model of the SUV prior to today’s event, albeit with our cameras taped over so we are able to only describe what we saw. Because the teaser suggests, the redesigned SUV adopts a curvier design with subtle creases that could be a departure from the present model.
Notable design cues include slender headlamps with integrated daytime running lights, flush door handles and a front end that eschews a standard grille for a large lower intake. A plug-in hybrid powertrain looks to be definite judging by the fuel and charging port doors we spotted on the model.
As for the inside, we only got to see a rough mock-up with a big central infotainment touchscreen, a digital instrument cluster and a wraparound dashboard. The staff readily available on the time wouldn’t expose any additional information beyond telling us that that is the brand new C9.
Along with the C9, Xu also mentioned the CX, which appears to be an off-road-style buggy concept that’s being explored. There may be also an unnamed model seen next to the CX within the presentation slide, although there’s no indication on what it may be except for it being a part of a line-up of products geared toward “uniting global youth with passionate personalised models.”
