Busby announced his decision on LinkedIn, saying he was able to use his automotive retail experience to assist other organisations address operational challenges for automotive dealers.
He leaves Hendy at the top of September to enter consultancy. No details of his successor at Hendy Group are yet known.

“After greater than 25 years, I’ve made the difficult decision to go away Hendy Group. It’s strange writing that sentence,” he said.
Latest challenge beyond Hendy
Busby said his next chapter would have a transparent purpose based on solving problems he had encountered during his profession in automotive retail.
“Because I’m ready for a brand new challenge, one with a transparent sense of purpose: helping other organisations find solutions to the operational problems within the sector, the stuff I’ve spent my profession working through from the within.”
A hugely experienced motor retail leader, and well-known within the industry, Busby has held wide-ranging responsibility across Hendy Group, including marketing, F&I, customer experience, compliance and project oversight.
As a member of the dealer group’s operations board, he has also supported latest business integrations, operational change, process improvements and the introduction of governance and controls as Hendy has expanded through growth and acquisition.
Profession spanning dealer operations
Busby has been Hendy’s industrial director since June 2016 and added the title of director of economic operations in March 2023.
His previous positions on the group have included latest automotive sales and group marketing director, CRM and marketing director, group sales development manager and general sales manager.
Busby can also be a trustee of the Hendy Foundation, which provides financial support to charities and community organisations in areas served by the dealer group.
He said he remained focused on the immediate performance of the business before his departure. “I look ahead to what comes next, and to staying connected with so many talented people, but for now it’s all about delivering a Q3 result!”
