To shut out 2024, we’ve asked our three busiest Speedhunters of the yr to focus on their three favorite stories from the past 12 months – from feature cars to events and every part in between. Finally, now we have Mario Christou to reflect of his yr of Speedhunting.
MC: Phew, we’ve made it to the tip. What a yr 2024 was, eh? This may increasingly have been my favourite yr of hunting speed up to now, and it’s been a real pleasure to document automotive culture for you all. From the looks of our social media engagement, I’d say you’ve enjoyed the ride just as much as I even have.
Looking ahead, I’m excited to see what 2025 brings – because, truthfully, I do not know what to anticipate. One thing I do know is that I need to take my very own automotive to more events next yr, even though it could definitely use a gentle refresh to get back to 100%. I’m also keen to dive deeper into motorsport events, whether that’s endurance racing on a worldwide scale or historic races just a little closer to home. I have already got some trips lined up for locations each snowy and sandy, so expect a greater diversity of content from me in the approaching 12 months. But before we race into 2025, with my personal favourite three stories from 2024…
I used to be torn on this one. I almost included my full Goodwood Revival coverage in my top three, but the reality is, I got bored with running across the track perimeter in each rain and blazing sun all day. It was at night, though, as I used to be leaving, that I really woke up. The sight of historic race cars bathed within the soft glow of fairy lights was straight out of a dream – and something I’ll always remember.

You’re probably getting bored with me waxing lyrical about my favourite brands and models, but a day spent with Paul McLean and his one-of-a-kind Porsche 993 RSR genuinely had me reconsidering my list of favourite cars. Picture this: a crisp, frosty morning within the British countryside, the sun rising over the dewy fields – a picture-perfect backdrop for a fairly, pastel Porsche. The thunderous 3.8-litre soundtrack only made it higher.

Okay, I do feel just a little guilty, including an article from last week, but in my defence, I didn’t expect December to be so filled with epic automotive adventures. And really, how could I not include this? Meeting one in all my childhood hero cars in person – just about all to myself – was a moment that might be hard to top.

Bonus: N24 would have made the list this yr if it hadn’t been cut short to simply seven hours and if I’d had the standard media access. Still, it gets an honourable mention for being an incredibly fun weekend and a likelihood to indicate you how you can experience the event as a spectator.

This was meant to be a brief recap, so I’ll wrap it up here. But before I am going, I need to wish all of you a really comfortable Latest Yr and 2025 filled with more awesome automotive culture.
