A couple of years back there have been rumors General Motors was considering using the Corvette nameplate for a standalone brand completely separate from Chevrolet, with the lineup to incorporate perhaps an SUV and sedan together with the normal sports automobile.

Nonetheless, in a recent episode of “Jay Leno’s Garage” featuring the brand new 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, GM President Mark Reuss ruled out Corvette becoming its own brand.

Leno brings up the difficulty on the 18:30 mark within the episode, and Reuss replies that the Corvette is staying put as Chevy, because it epitomizes what the Bowtie brand is actually about, and that is offering buyers more for the cash that what they could expect, and doing it with implausible design and performance.

The video is well well worth the watch in its entirety, as Reuss provides a wealth of data on the brand new ZR1 in addition to GM normally. Reuss’ father, Lloyd E. Reuss, also worked for GM and was also its president within the early Nineteen Nineties, and we study a few of his history, including his own C2-generation Corvette which can also be featured within the episode.

The 2025 Corvette range is as a consequence of start delivery later this 12 months, though the ZR1, which was revealed in July, is not due in showrooms until next 12 months. Chevy hasn’t announced a price however the starting figure is predicted to be within the upper $100,000 bracket. Fully loaded examples may crest the $200,000 mark, which can be a primary for America’s sports automobile.

Incredibly, the 1,064-hp ZR1 is not expected to be the top of the road for the C8-generation Corvette, at the very least by way of performance. Prototypes have already been spotted for what’s regarded as a brand new Zora flagship combining the ZR1’s twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V-8 with the E-Ray’s front electric motor. The combined output may reach hypercar levels.
