The 2025 Chevrolet Silverado EV is getting its own version of GMC’s CrabWalk mode, a feature that was missing when the electrical pickup truck debuted as a 2024 model.
Chevy confirmed on Friday that its version of CrabWalk is called Sidewinder mode, making use of a reputation General Motors trademarked in 2022. While the name could also be different, the function is similar. Sidewinder mode uses the Silverado EV’s rear-axle steering to show all 4 wheels in the identical direction, enabling diagonal driving at speeds ups to twenty mph.

Sidewinder mode is activated through the Rear Steering page within the Controls menu of the Silverado EV’s infotainment display. Once activated, graphics on the display and a confirmation message within the digital instrument cluster let drivers known they’re able to go.
This feature is standard on the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado RST, but can even be available on all 2024 Chevrolet Silverado RST First Edition models via an over-the-air update. Chevy said it is going to push that update to any leftover 2024 models still on dealer lots, in addition to trucks already in customer hands.

Under the CrabWalk name, the diagonal-driving mode debuted within the GMC Hummer EV and was then offered within the 2024 GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1—GMC’s similar to the Silverado EV RST First Edition. The 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ can be expected to get this feature, branded as Cadillac Arrival Mode.
Other changes to the Silverado EV for 2025 include a brand new LT grade that slots between the prevailing WT and RST models, in addition to range boosts for those models. The WT is now estimated to have as much as 492 miles with the larger of two available battery packs, while the RST offers as much as 460 miles of estimated range.
