General Motors has recalled 63 examples of the Chevrolet Corvette in Australia after it was discovered the sports automobile’s seatbelts don’t comply with local regulations.
“Attributable to a producing defect, the front seatbelt automatic locking retractors (ALR) may engage sooner than intended and lock the retractor when an occupant is attempting to lock the seatbelt,” General Motors said in its recall notice.
“This will likely lead to the vehicle occupants being unable to accurately fasten the seatbelt as intended.
“The seatbelts not operating as intended could leave the vehicle occupants without the first safety restraint. The affected vehicles don’t comply with Australian Design Rule 04/06 – Seatbelts.”
