The Clark County School District in Nevada has ordered 15 GreenPower Type D BEAST electric school buses through car dealership RWC Group.
CCSD is the fifth largest school district in the nation, and it owns and operates some 1,924 buses that transport 125,000 students daily. The district put its first GreenPower Type D BEAST school bus into service earlier this year.
The new batch of 15 e-buses will be purchased with funding from the EPA’s Clean School Bus Program. Under the first round of EPA funding, each Type D BEAST GreenPower is eligible for a $375,000 grant. The total purchase price for all 15 Clark County BEASTs is just under $7 million.
GreenPower’s BEAST is a purpose-built 40-foot D-Type all-electric school bus that seats up to 90 passengers. The BEAST features an integrated chassis with an all-aluminum body, allowing for pass-through storage under the bus. Dual-port charging supports Level 2 rates up to 19.2 kW and DC fast charging rates up to 85 kW. Wireless charging is also available as an option.
“Clark County is an innovative, forward-thinking school district that is leading the nation in the transition to all-electric school buses,” said Michael Perez, GreenPower vice president for school buses, contracts and grants. “We are honored to have our purpose-built BEAST school buses as the base for Clark County’s transition.”
