The federal government says that the implementation of the Budi Madani RON 95 (Budi95) targeted petrol subsidy rationalisation has gone easily, with operational systems stable because the programme was launched at the tip of September, as The Star reports.
Consequently, there have been no problems with users having to attend or queue for long periods to refuel at petrol stations, said deputy finance minister Lim Hui Ying Speaking within the Dewan Rakyat, she said this was because Budi95 is supported by a server handling capability far greater than that of the Sara Appreciation initiative.
“The Sara system processes only 3,000 transactions per minute, whereas the Budi95 servers are able to processing over 10 times more, exceeding 30,000 transactions per minute,” she said.
“As of November 17, a complete of 13.6 million Malaysians have carried out greater than 143.5 million refuelling transactions under the Budi95 programme. Transaction rates peaked at 41,200 transactions per minute, while the typical rate stands at around 15,000 transactions per minute,” she added.
Lim was replying to an issue from Suhaizan Kaiat (PH-Pulai), who asked in regards to the use of MyKad as a mechanism to confirm the targeted subsidy for RON 95 at petrol stations and whether it had resulted in long queues, as had happened with verification for the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) aid on August 31.
On the challenges faced by those in rural areas with limited access to subsidised fuel, Lim said the federal government is committed to continuous improvements to make sure reach of Budi95 is more inclusive and effective. “Among the many measures taken is using MyKad Terminals, which may not only be connected to WiFi networks, but in addition support SIM cards to make sure more stable Web connectivity,” she said.
She added that the ministry will proceed to work closely with the Malaysian communications and multimedia commission (MCMC) to strengthen network coverage, especially in rural areas that also face limited network access.
