The facelifted BYD Dolphin has been revealed in a Chinese government filing, featuring subtly tweaked styling and a brand new electric motor option.

A Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) filing has detailed the Dolphin’s minor changes, with photos showing its revised front- and rear-end styling.

Given it has appeared in a government filing, an official reveal is probably going imminent regardless that BYD has already detailed full pricing and specifications for the 2025 Dolphin on its Chinese website.

There are currently only 70kW and 150kW drivetrain options available, with prices across the lineup starting from ¥99,800 (A$21,507) to ¥129,800 (A$27,972).

Now, Automotive News China reports a 130kW electric motor option shall be added to the Dolphin lineup together with the facelift, though range claims usually are not known.

Cosmetic tweaks include a revised front with tweaked headlight and grille designs, in addition to a brand new bumper and recent shapes for the side vent housings and lower cooling intake.

Down the side, the Dolphin appears unchanged, but down back there are some visual tweaks including a revised bumper and full-width light bar.

The ‘Construct Your Dreams’ wordmark has also been replaced with one simply reading ‘BYD’.

Chinese specifications reveal the brand new Dolphin shall be available with either 16- or 17-inch wheels, and have dimensions of 4280mm long, 1770mm wide, and 1570mm tall on top of a 2700mm wheelbase. Its length measurement is 10mm shorter than the present model.

Moreover, Automotive News China reports three individual kerb weights of 1435kg, 1480kg, and 1600kg.

Available optional equipment reported by Automotive News China features a panoramic sunroof; front and rear radars; front, rear, and side mirror cameras; a black roof; and rear privacy glass.

It’ll proceed to be powered by BYD’s Blade LFP battery packs, that are currently available within the Dolphin lineup in capacities of either 44.928kWh or 60.48kWh.

The previous is paired with a 70kW/180Nm motor, while the latter supports the higher-output 150kW/310Nm unit.

The smaller battery comes only with the less powerful motor in Australia, and offers 340km of WLTP range; the larger battery, paired with the more powerful motor, achieves 427km.

Australian pricing is $36,890 before on-roads for the Dynamic, and $42,890 before on-roads for the Premium.
