Although BYD hasn’t detailed exact local pricing for its forthcoming Shark 6 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) ute just yet, the corporate has now confirmed it can priced below $60,000.
At this asking price it sees it undercut the likes of the Ford Ranger XLT Bi-Turbo dual-cab ($63,640 before on-roads), and Toyota HiLux SR5 with V-Energetic Technology ($63,260 before on-roads).
Orders for the BYD Shark 6 are set to open on October 29 ahead of first local deliveries commencing in December 2024 to January 2025.

It’s set to be the primary PHEV ute in Australia, beating the Ford Ranger PHEV and GWM Cannon Alpha Hi-4T to market.
At launch only a single range-topping Premium version of the Shark 6 can be offered, with 4 exterior paint color decisions and one black interior color option.
Under the bonnet is a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, two electric motors, and a 30kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. Total system outputs are 321kW of power and 650Nm of torque.
The ute is able to travelling as much as 100km on electric power alone, in accordance with NEDC testing. Payload is 790kg and braked towing capability is 2500kg.
